We object absolutely to moving from the Mount Scar site. The proposal intends to remove the school from the heart of the community which has grown up around it over 112 years. Our day-to-day involvement with the town will be drastically reduced.
As Ofsted noted, our pupils
'make an active and positive contribution to both the school and the wider community... A strength of the curriculum is the very good use of the very rich school environment.'
Our pupils walk to visit the lifeboat station, Durlston Country Park, the fire station, the beach, to attend services at several surrounding churches and to visit care homes to sing and play music. At the out-of-town Middle School site this would not be possible without having to ask parents to pay for transport.
We also believe that closing an outstanding school will lead to more families moving away. At the moment young families are being attracted to Swanage because of its excellent schools.
